Vancouver Harp Day - Oct 20, 2018

Harp Day is coming to Vancouver

The schedule is not finalized but we think it will look pretty much like this:

9:30 - Arrive and bring your harp in

10 - 12 noon - workshop for adults and older teens, novice and intermediates. Bring your harp and learn to play 2 beautiful tunes (music for all levels will be available in advance to registrants)

10 - 11 am - panel discussion about making your living playing the harp - gigs, teaching, technology!

11 - 12  am - preparing for exams and competitions. A panel of experienced competitors and teachers will share strategies, tips and inspiration

lunch - a few restaurants nearby, or bring your own bag lunch

1:30 - 2:30 pm  - Try playing a harp!   A hands on experience for would-be harpists from 4 to 104. There will be plenty of harps to try out, and lots of people to help you make your first sounds.  Children are welcome.

1:30 - 2:30 pm Session for parents. All the questions about starting your child in harp lessons - practicing, acquiring a harp, expectations, and the joy of it all

2:30 -  3 pm - a big group lesson for all the beginners from the 1:30 -2:30 pm session

3 - 3:30 pm break and set up for ensemble rehearsal

3:30 - 4:30 pm - Ensemble rehearsal. All the students from the morning class, along with those sight readers who were attending the discussions, and anyone else are welcome to the ensemble rehearsal. We'll prepare for the big concert to follow. If you're not participating in the ensemble you are still welcome to attend the rehearsal and listen in.

supper break

7 - 8:30 - The concert!  We'll begin with an ensemble performance by some small angels, followed by a grand showcase of harp music performed by the 4 winners of our summer study fund competition. In addition we have a couple of other outstanding student performers, and we'll finish with the large ensemble we created in the afternoon. Should be wonderful!

Open throughout the day is a marketplace of CD's, sheet music and books, and likely even harps for sale. You'll want to browse!

We're very grateful to the American Harp Society for a grant that has partially funded this event, and provided funding for the students' travel grant competition - thank you.

Registration for harp day workshops - (10 am- 4:30 pm) is $25 for individuals, or $50 for a family

Tickets for the evening concert are $25 for those 21 and over. Children through 21 years are FREE.

Free tickets to the evening concert are offered to paid up members of the West Coast Harp Society and to those volunteering at the Harp Day events.  If you are interested in being one of those, please email marilyn@harpcanada.com. We particularly need volunteers with harps to assist in the "Try playing a harp" session.

note: if you're thinking of purchasing a membership, please know that the membership years runs Sept to August, but memberships purchased through the website from Aug 8, 2018 will be honoured as 2018-2019 memberships.
