Alison Hunter, Whistler BC

Alison Hunter is a harpist based in Whistler – a resort municipality two hours north of Vancouver, British Columbia.

Originally from Vancouver, Alison studied the harp in Europe as well as at the University of British Columbia from where she graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree. She is also a Registered Music Teacher and is a member of the British Columbia Registered Music Teachers’ Association. Alison also taught as a music specialist in the public school system before retirement in 2015.

Prior to moving to Whistler, Alison was on the faculty at the Vancouver Academy of Music and the Langley Community Music School as a harp instructor. Presently, she accepts private harp students at her music studio in Whistler.

Alison has been playing the harp professionally for more than thirty years. She has performed with the Vancouver Philharmonic Orchestra, the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra and the Coast Symphony Orchestra as well as with various chamber ensembles.

Currently, Alison performs in Whistler and throughout the Sea to Sky corridor for weddings as well as private and public functions. Her repertoire is extensive and varied and she plays either concert pedal harp or lever harp depending on the venue and music genre. Alison can be found playing the harp on the shores of Alta Lake, in the foyer of the Fairmont Chateau Whistler, amidst the vendors at the Whistler Farmers’ Market and at the Roundhouse on top of Whistler Mountain – all in a day’s work for Whistler’s resident harpist!
